I think I'm kinda a capable preggie when it comes to taking public transport.

Now at 8 months plus, I'm still able to take buses and MRTs quite happily. I'm still able to climb up double-decker buses, stand a few stations of MRT and squeeze with students and workers on almost-full buses.

But of course, there are many things I have to put up with when taking public transport.. For example..

1) Buses that attempt to save aircon. I once took this 62 which did not seem to have much aircon. I almost fainted on the way. It didn't help that it was peak hour and the bus and jam-filled with people and the people beside, in front and back of me were either talking LOUDLY to each other or on the phone. Mental note to myself after that was to avoid that bus.

2) People who don't give up seats on MRT. My worst experience was having to stand on the MRT after Xmas shopping. My feet just couldn't take it and no one was giving up seats and spiteful me just sat on the floor (and had a hard time getting up after that). Now that I'm more visibly pregnant, nice people had been giving up seats to me. And nice people are usually (a) middle-aged aunties ladies (b) non-Chinese (mainly Indian men) (c) people who don't seem like they'll give up seats to you (including ah beng looking guys). I always make it a point to thank them quite loudly. Never ever expect these people to give up seats to you - well-dressed young men (anywhere from 20s to 40s), students, young ladies. There was once I took the MRT during morning peak hours and (unfortunately) walked into a cabin seated with men. ALL of them slept all the way and amazingly woke up at their stops. When I'm in a good mood (which is about 70% of the time), I like to make fun of people who don't give up seats. Once, there was this young man (prob a lil' less than 20) seated in this priority seat and he "fell asleep" immediately when he saw me get on the train. I laughed out loud at his attempt cos it was really quite funny. I think he was kinda embarrassed by it cos he "woke up" suddenly and gave me his seat. Another time, there was this middle-aged man seated at the priority seat on the extreme right. When he saw me standing in front of him, he turned to look toward the left and just kept looking at the left. I was on the phone with my mum at that time and I think I spoke kinda loudly which woke the nice auntie next to him and she gave up her seat to me. When I sat down, I realised that that man was STILL looking to the left. So I looked in the direction he was looking at (in an exagerrated manner), found nothing interesting, turned back, stared right at him (and he was still concentrating on looking left), looked at him from head to toe, turned to look at the left again, found nothing interesting, turned back and stared at him. That man then slowly turned his head toward the right. Ha! He should be embarrassed of himself.

3) Students, especially those from a certain elite school (ES) near my workplace. I have nothing much against the ES students except that they share the same feeder bus as me to get to school (and me to work). I dunno why do they change assembly time to 8am (and even later for Monday)? Don't they know that kids should sleep early and wake up early, go to school early and go home early? Why do they wanna change their assembly time to be the same as working adults start work time and inconvenience everyone? And it doesn't help that the students (a) think that the back of the bus is haunted (and hence don't move all the way in) (b) have big bags that pose a hazard to my bulging tummy (c) being students, don't give up seats or even queue for the bus properly. There's this particular IRRITATING ES boy who always attempt to squeeze to the front of the queue, plong himself quickly into a seat and start playing his PSP. I once stood in front of him and he just kept playing with his PSP. It was a nice Chinese worker who gave up his seat to me in the end. Now, everytime I see that boy, I wanna stick a pin into his fat butt (which nice me didn't of course). I'd call ES to complain and even SBS. But the situation is still the same. Come on ES, you're an elite school and I bet you have money. The other schools in that area charter shuttle buses for their students, why can't you?

With the outbreak of the flu pandemic across the world these few days, starting from Mexico and spreading to countries as far as New Zealand that has stringent control on health, it is an alarm for us not to be complacent and to be on the alert ready for any exigencies.

As an emergency measure, Temperature Taking Exercise will be carried out in ALL schools on Wednesday 29 April 2009 morning.

This is a reminder to all to Bring your thermometer on 29 April 2009. Please check that your thermometer is in working condition before 29 April.

You are reminded to take this exercise SERIOUSLY and we will take stern disciplinary action against any student who did not bring a thermometer after this email reminder and announcement by VP Ng tomorrow.
